Under-18 Rugby League Brawl Leaves Spectator Hospitalized in Sydney

A violent brawl during an under-18 rugby league match in Sydney, Australia, has left a 71-year-old spectator hospitalized with serious injuries as police investigate the incident.

The fight broke out on July 19 at Dudley Chesham Sports Ground in The Oaks following a tense match between The Oaks Tigers and Campbelltown Collegians, which ended in a 16-16 draw after a late penalty goal.

Racial Abuse Allegedly Sparked the Violence

According to reports, racial slurs were allegedly directed at several Campbelltown Collegians players after the final whistle.

Witnesses claimed offensive remarks from the crowd quickly escalated into a large fight involving players, supporters and spectators. Police are also investigating allegations that racial abuse continued on social media after the incident.

Spectator Suffers Serious Injuries

Authorities said a 71-year-old man was allegedly punched and kicked in the car park while attempting to help a family member during the chaos.

He suffered a broken nose, fractured ribs and facial injuries before being transported to hospital for treatment.

Investigation Continues

Officers from the Camden Police Area Command responded to the incident and are reviewing video footage to determine exactly how the brawl began.

Meanwhile, the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) has indefinitely stood down both The Oaks Tigers and Campbelltown Collegians under-18 teams while investigations continue.
